Four billion people are about to go to the polls in landmark elections that will shape the future of world order.

More than half of the global population is being invited to vote in the US, India, Taiwan, Europe, Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Canada and Indonesia, with serious geopolitical implications.

China describes Taiwan’s election in January as “a choice between war and peace. It’s fighter jets buzzed the country just days ago.

The stakes could barely be higher, and looming over it all is technology.

Tech’s influence has been harnessed, and abused, since Barack Obama used it to win The White House.

Now the emergence of AI has increased the power for disinformation and bias to be spread, potentially tipping the scales of global power.

On the frontline will be Meta, under searing scrutiny after being targeted by Russia to inflame sentiments to boost Donald Trump.
