Fortnite launches $50 billion antitrust case against Google
The makers of Fortnite are dragging Sundar Pichai back to court alleging the Play store rips off consumers and developers
Google is facing yet another Battle Royale in court. Epic Games has launched an antitrust case accusing them of charging “monopoly taxes’ in the Play store.
The creator of Fortnite, played by 400 million people, says it has no choice but to use Google’s app store, where they are charged “10x more in transaction charges” than rivals.
Epic sued Apple over the same issue two years ago, leading a judge to rule Apple could not stop developers like Epic telling users about alternative payment options.
The new Google case was revealed by Epic CEO Tim Sweeney yesterday.
“We’re fighting for consumer and developer freedom to do business directly, free of monopoly stores, monopoly payment processors and monopoly taxes,” he tweeted.
“In-app transaction prices are inflated by up to 30% by Google fees, versus 3% payment processing fees in competitive markets.
