You old timers already know, but for those new joiners, this newsletter began as a way for my mates around the world and I to discuss the latest media and tech headlines over a scotch.
It’s titled Scotch and Watch after the news team I led at the News of the World created a whisky club in the early 2000s. It met every Thursday at my Canary Wharf townhouse to build camaraderie, share stories, laugh, and let off steam.
The friendships forged back then have aged well, just like the whiskies that we used to launch them.
This week marks a personal milestone. April 4 was the 20th anniversary since I quit News UK to move to News Australia to accelerate its shift to digital.
