There’s nothing like a momentous collision of Big Tech and Big Media to stir up new subscribers.
The newsletter experienced its largest surge in activity ever after Meta made its announcement to axe its Government-imposed payments to publishers on Friday.
Rather than rush out a note, I took a gentleman’s pause, speaking to many across news, politics, tech, advertising, and even some of those who brokered the deal.
Among the new faces signing up have been many from Amazon and Microsoft, but the most active readers since the announcement have been from Google.
